An unopened gift
Do you like receiving gifts?
I have worked with children and what always made me smile is to see their eyes light up when receiving some unknown present. It doesn’t have to be big but the unwrapping of the present gave the children already the biggest joy.
Full of energy, the toddler quickly starts ripping of the outer layers to see what is inside of it. The inadequate of its small motor skills doesn’t slow down to achieve its goal. The sticky tape is way too difficult to get undone so the tiny hands start making little tears in the paper. Unwrapping a present is the only thing the toddler thinks about, nothing will stand in his way to achieve that goal.
When talking about my weakness in the other post I feel it is a bit like an unopened gift, a toy that can’t be enjoyed because it is still wrapped tightly.
Are you still as energetic as the toddler in unwrapped your gift? Or are you already saying I don’t need that extra in my life, I am happy with what I’ve got. Your weakness will stay wrapped up and can’t be enjoyed.
The toddler would try to rip, suck, pinch and poke any way to get to the middle of the wrapping. The toddler wouldn’t give up but find a way. Life is one big learning curve in his eyes. It is constant learning new skills and like a sponge the toddler is taking it in.
The barrier it needs to overcome to get to the inside of the gift doesn’t stop it from trying. Its enthusiast doesn’t stop. The toddler hasn’t got any weakness in his eyes. His perspective of life is so simple. Every day is a gift full of learning new skills.
My perspective of a weakness is that just like an unopened gift it needs to be unwrapped. It may be as slow as the toddler tear by tear but never lose your enthusiast. Keep you mind focus on the gift.

Ida, I really enjoyed this post. Its so true about how children see the world, and we need to recapture some of that enthusiasm, that we lose as we go through life. Thank you for highlighting this and prompting me to rethink how I view my goals again.
